Liverpool 4-0 Bayer Leverkusen: Luis Díaz Hat-Trick Illuminates Arne Slot's Anfield Triumph

Xabi Alonso's emotional return to Anfield as manager of German champions Bayer Leverkusen turned into an overwhelming demonstration of Liverpool's ruthless attacking power. Arne Slot's side scored four unanswered second-half goals, powered by a sublime hat-trick from Colombian winger Luis Díaz playing in an unfamiliar central striker role.

Arne Slot\'s Masterful Half-Time Adjustment

The first 45 minutes saw a tactical chess match. Alonso's Leverkusen, who went unbeaten throughout the domestic Bundesliga season, congested the midfield zones and limited Liverpool to speculative long-range efforts. At half-time, Slot adjusted his pressing structure: instead of pressing wide, Liverpool squeezed Leverkusen's center-backs into forced turnovers.

The Second-Half Avalanche

The breakthrough arrived in the 61st minute when Curtis Jones delivered an exquisite no-look through-ball that sliced through Leverkusen's high defensive line. Luis Díaz timed his run perfectly, executing a delicate dink over Finnish goalkeeper Lukáš Hrádecký.

Just two minutes later, Mohamed Salah curled a sumptuous cross onto the forehead of Cody Gakpo, who buried a header at the far post. As Leverkusen pushed forward in desperation, Díaz struck twice more in the 83rd and 92nd minutes to complete his maiden European hat-trick for the Reds, sending Anfield into delirium.

Liverpool\'s Perfect Champions League Run

With four wins from four matches and only one goal conceded, Liverpool sits atop the newly formulated 36-team UEFA Champions League table. Under Arne Slot's composed management, the Merseyside giants have won 14 of their first 16 matches in all competitions—the best managerial start in the club's 132-year history.
