AC Milan Stuns Real Madrid 3-1 at Santiago Bernabéu: Morata and Reijnders Silence European Champions
Tactical breakdown of AC Milan's masterclass 3-1 victory over reigning Champions League holders Real Madrid at the Santiago Bernabéu, ending Madrid's 15-match home unbeaten run.
Two of European football's most storied clubs collided under the lights in the Spanish capital, and it was seven-time winners AC Milan who produced a tactical masterpiece. Paulo Fonseca's Rossoneri silenced the Santiago Bernabéu, defeating reigning European champions Real Madrid 3-1 to record their first away victory against Los Blancos since October 2009.
Exposing Madrid\'s Defensive Imbalances
Following their humiliating 4-0 Clásico defeat to Barcelona, Carlo Ancelotti's Real Madrid entered the encounter seeking redemption. However, Milan exploited the tactical imbalances in Madrid's star-studded lineup. With Kylian Mbappé and Vinícius Júnior rarely tracking back into defensive midfield areas, Milan's dynamic wingback Christian Pulisic and flying winger Rafael Leão found acres of space in transition.
How the Goals Flowed
- 12th Minute: Malick Thiaw rose highest at the near post to power home Christian Pulisic's pinpoint corner delivery, stunning the home supporters.
- 23rd Minute: Vinícius Júnior equalized from the penalty spot with a cheeky panenka after being tripped by Emerson Royal.
- 39th Minute: Former Madrid striker Álvaro Morata reacted fastest to tap home the rebound after Andriy Lunin parried Leão's fierce shot.
- 73rd Minute: Rafael Leão produced a breathtaking 60-yard solo run, dancing past Éder Militão and Lucas Vázquez before squaring to Tijjani Reijnders, who drilled cleanly into the net.
Tijjani Reijnders: The Midfield Dynamo
Dutch international Tijjani Reijnders orchestrated Milan's midfield with pristine precision. Completing 98% of his passes and winning five individual ground duels against Aurélien Tchouaméni and Luka Modrić, Reijnders demonstrated why he has become one of European football's most coveted box-to-box midfielders.
"We played with courage and personality. Winning at the Bernabéu is only possible when you show no fear and execute your tactical plan from minute one."
