Rawalpindi & Karachi Stadium Upgrades: High-Lux LED Floodlights and Digital Replay Infrastructure
Comprehensive look at the modernization of National Stadium Karachi and Rawalpindi Cricket Stadium, ensuring premier tournament readiness for global broadcast audiences.
While Lahore's Gaddafi Stadium captured global headlines with its structural reconstruction, major infrastructural facelifts have simultaneously revitalized the National Stadium in Karachi and the Rawalpindi Cricket Stadium. These comprehensive upgrades ensure all three host venues meet the ICC's stringent requirements for international broadcasting, drainage, and player safety.
National Stadium Karachi: Sub-Air Drainage & Hospitality Suites
Karachi's coastal humidity and occasional torrential rains historically posed challenges for ground staff. To eliminate rain delays, the PCB installed a state-of-the-art vacuum-powered sub-air drainage system beneath the square. This system can evacuate up to 200,000 liters of water within 15 minutes of rain subsiding, virtually guaranteeing play resumes promptly after downpours.
Additionally, the university road end hospitality enclosures received 32 luxury VIP suites, enhanced with soundproof acoustic glass and dedicated culinary services for visiting international dignitaries and broadcast partners.
Rawalpindi: The Fast-Paced High-Scoring Fortress
Known for delivering high-scoring thrillers and passionate capacity crowds, the Rawalpindi Cricket Stadium focused on maximizing fan convenience and media operations:
- Press & Media Gallery: An expanded 200-seat media center with 10Gbps dedicated fiber connectivity for international journalists.
- Digital Turnstiles: RFID-enabled barcode scanners integrated with biometric security to streamline spectator entry and eradicate counterfeit ticketing.
- Boundary Wall Reinforcement: Soft-cushion boundary advertising boards designed to safeguard boundary riders diving at full tilt.
Broadcasting Standards for 4K Global Feed
Both venues have upgraded their lighting lux levels to exceed 3,200 lux vertically and 2,500 lux horizontally, ensuring crystal-clear ultra-high-definition coverage for host broadcasters, including PTV Sports HD. Whether viewing on terrestrial television or digital screens, sports fans can anticipate a visually spectacular international tournament experience.
